Motivation is one of those things that isn’t really talked about enough. Why people are motivated, why people stay motivated are things that I get asked about daily. Motivation is something that is key to a successful life and it can make or break your productivity. We are all still in the middle of the pandemic and with all thats going on in the world it can be hard to stay motivated. So how, you ask do we stay motivated through it all, here are some simple tips to help you stay motivated:
- STAY FOCUSED: This is important especially when there are so many distractions around you, staying focused is one of the main ways to stay motivated. Keeping your mind unto one task and one task only keeps you motivated to stay the course of what you are doing. Also, making sure that you are cutting down your tasks into simple bite sized pieces so you can be able to complete them. It’s easy to stay motivated with fewer tasks than it is to take on bigger tasks. Staying focused also helps you plan better and it increases your motivation to do what you need to do in a timely fashion. The more focused you are the easier it is to maintain your motivation. One thing that helps me stay focused is watching motivational speeches on youtube, one of my favorite motivational speakers is Les Brown, I watch his videos religiously when I don’t feel motivated and it keeps me focused which in turn boosts my motivation.
- REMEMBER YOUR WHY: If you don’t know the reason behind you doing things then you are not going to be motivated to do anything. No matter your profession you have to enjoy doing what you do, and if you don’t its going to be hard to be motivated and stay motivated. For you to be able to motivate yourself you have to remember your why. Something as simple as having a vision board or having a place you write all the reasons why you are doing what you’re currently doing helps a great deal. For me, I always remember that I’m doing what I do especially t help people who may be in situations that they can’t get out of or to show them that no matter what it is they have the power to do whatever they set their minds to. That’s powerful! That’s enough to motivate you daily and to help you push yourself even when the going gets tough.
- HAVE AN ACCOUNTABILITY PARTNER:
We can’t do it all alone sometimes, finding someone to hold you accountable helps you stay motivated. This person can be a friend, a family member or even a co worker, all they need to do is hold you accountable when you say youre going to do something. Knowing another person is involved makes you more prone to doing things and helps you stay motivated. My favorite accountability partner is my husband because he keeps me in check when I haven’t completed a task I said I was going to complete or even when Im feeling unmotivated. Most of the times motivation comes from within but with a little push from someone externally it keeps us on track. - REWARD YOURSELF: This is as important as the other points, you want to make sure you are rewarding yourself especially after completing a task you were supposed to do. Rewarding yourself makes you feel motivated to complete a task you have at hand. It also makes you more driven because if you know that theres a reward coming. One example is if I wanted to do something work related I’d start off by telling myself that if I maybe put up a blog post I’d watch my favorite tv show afterwards. This keeps me focused because I really want to watch my tv show, this comes with a-lot of discipline especially if you are feeling unmotivated but its helps.
- TAKE A BREAK: I know this sounds counterproductive but this is one of the most important ways to stay motivated! When you are unmotivated sometimes you could also be burnt-out. What is burn out you may ask? This is state of emotional, physical, and mental exhaustion caused by excessive and prolonged stress. Just as its defined its when we are exhausted beyond even trying to be motivated. Being burnt-out can lead to a high level of unmotivated feelings and can make you not want to do anything at all. This is why taking a break is absolutely necessary because it gives you time to breathe and relax, to take your mind off of things that may be stressful. Even just taking a day or a couple of days off a project make you come back rejuvenated and ready to be more motivated to do the work that maybe cause you a high level of stress. You may even come back more motivated and this will help you see things a bit clearer. I love my weekends, this is the time I take breaks and rest to renew my mind to give me more gusto to complete tasks for the week ahead.Â
So as you’ve by now figured out sometimes we can be unmotivated due to several factors like stress level, mental states or burnout but there is no reason to fret! Motivation no matter if its lost can always come back it just takes these tips and a little bit of determination. It also takes a-lot of mental energy to be able to push yourself but one you are motivated it doesn’t go way. So keep pushing yourself, keep striving to be better, and stay motivated!
